My work reflects my attraction to urban landscapes and the decaying surfaces and structures that are found within. To recreate these surfaces on my tiles and functional ware, I build layers with texture, colored slips, and various glazes. Through this process I create visual and textural elements to engage the viewer.
My sculptures combine the organic form of the figure with the geometric forms of architecture. I use these architectural elements in a satirical way, metaphorically representing the different stages of womanhood. Stoneware is my medium of choice, because it’s an organic material and softens the contrast between the figurative and architectural forms. The clay is fired and left unglazed to accentuate the details.
